CHICO – Even after a 10-point deficit in the fourth period, the Pleasant Valley High School JV girls basketball team persisted against visiting Chico, and the payoff was a 50-48 overtime victory.

It moved the Vikings to 8-1 in Eastern Athletic League play and 19-2 on the season.

PV led 11-8 after the first period but trailed 25-22 at the break. Chico expanded its lead to 36-28 through three, but PV caught up and tied it 44-44 at the end of regulation

"We could have quit being down by 10 in the fourth quarter but we pressed, Chico turned it over numerous times, and we fought back to make it a two-point game with 12 seconds to go," said Vikings coach Tony Carlisle.

"Brittany Younan drove to the basket and was fouled. She made both free throws with six seconds left and the game was tied. In overtime it was back and forth. We had the ball with six seconds left and for some reason Chico fouled us on their press.

"With four seconds left, Mallory Nelson sank 2 free throws and Chico missed its last shot. It was one of the most exciting games I have ever seen," he said.

Diana Hollingsworth played great and score 10 points in the second half. "She attacked Chico and made some incredible baskets – she got us back in the game. She was huge," said Coach Boles.

Morgan Nedved and Younan each finished with nine points.

"What a great game. It is not often where you win both games against Chico. The team played really hard and never gave up," remarked coach Nick Bonacich, who added Michele and Tia played great defense.

PV plays next against Foothill.
